Disney Look Knows Best

I decided to do a general post on Disney Look for anyone who works in theme parks and resorts especially for you DCP applicants since I know it can be complicated. These guidelines will be taken from Disney themselves aka their handbook, and their website. I want to be clear you will hear stories of exceptions and what not, but keep in mind it is really at the discretion of your leaders to decide if you meet Disney Look guidelines are not (some are a lot stricter about it then others).I also want to state for you PIs not working in the theme parks Disney Look guidelines are followed, but not as strict as so my suggestion is observe your work location to see what would be approved and what would not. Now for you theme park roles without further ado here is Disney Look guidelines as told by Disney themselves.
For males you must meet these guidelines:
  • Hair must be neatly cut on the back and sides, forming a smooth, symmetrical appearance so that it does not extend beyond or cover any part of the ears or the shirt collar. The overall style must be neat, natural and balanced proportionally
  • A shaved head is permitted, as well as a very short military-style cut. Shaving of the eyebrows is not permitted
  • Conservative braided hairstyles for men without beads or ornamentation are permitted. They must be styled above the ears and cut above the collar and be neatly braided close to the scalp in straight rows.
  • Tucking hair behind the ears, or pinning or tucking it under a hat to conceal an unacceptable hairstyle will not be permitted.
  • Extreme or bi-level styles are not permitted.
  • Hair products may be used to create a soft, natural hairstyle within these guidelines.
  • Artificial hair is permitted if it looks natural and meets all of the above requirements.
  • The Disney Look does not permit extremes in dyeing, bleaching or coloring. If the hair color is changed, it must be natural looking and well-maintained. Subtle highlighting or frosting is permitted, as long as it creates a uniform look over the whole head and meets all of the previously listed guidelines.

Hair Color:

The Disney Look does not permit extremes in dyeing, bleaching or coloring. If hair color is changed, it must be natural-looking and well maintained. Subtle highlighting or frosting is permitted as long as it creates a uniform look over the whole head and meets all of the previously listed guidelines (the ones I posted above).

Facial Hair:
  • For all male Cast Members, a fully grown in, well-maintained mustache, beard, or goatee is permitted, unless otherwise restricted by regulatory codes and standards.
  • Facial hair must be neatly trimmed and may not present an unkempt appearance. Extreme styles are prohibited.
  • All facial hair (beards, goatees and mustaches) must create an overall neat, polished and professional look.
  • All facial hair must be fully grown in, neatly groomed and well maintained at no longer than a quarter of an inch in length. Mustaches may extend below the corners of the mouth to meet with the facial beard.
  • Shaping the mustache or beard to a particular style is not permitted. Mustaches (without lower facial hair) must not extend onto or over the upper lip and must extend to the corners of the mouth, but not beyond or below the corners.
  • Cast Members without a mustache, beard, or goatee are expected to be clean-shaven every day.
  • For clarification on whether a mustache, beard or goatee is acceptable, please consult your area leader or contact the Cast Image and Appearance team.
  • Sideburns:
  • Sideburns should be neatly trimmed, straight and even in width, and are permitted to extend to the bottom of the earlobe.
  • They should blend naturally from the hairline and from the length of hair on the head.
  • Flares or muttonchops are not permitted.

For females you must meet these guidelines (also sorry guys I am going more in-depth with females):

These are the general guidelines all females must meet:
  • Hair should be neatly combed and arranged in a classic, easy-to-maintain style. Extreme styles are not permitted.
  • Hair below shoulder length should be confined if it falls forward over the face while working.
  • Conservative braided hairstyles without beads or ornamentation are permitted.
  • Hair products may be used to create a soft, natural hairstyle within these guidelines.
  • Shaving of the head or any portion of the head or eyebrows is not permitted.
  • Artificial hair is permitted if it looks natural and meets all of the above requirements.
Rules for highlights, bayalage, and ombré must meet these guidelines

For anyone who is unclear here is an example of an approved look, and a not approved Disney Look according to those guidelines. I will show several examples as well as styles to give you an idea of what they want, and anyone feel free to comment if you have found anything different.

*Note none of these are my photos I found this on my favorite site Pinterest #noshame

An Ombré like this is not allowed for according to the Disney Look guidelines this holds true especially for any Disney Internship applicants. This is due to the rule about color being

1. Unnatural
2. Hair is distinctly a different color & two shades different

So, if you happen to have anything along these lines you will need to dye it to one solid color or a more natural look prior to the start of your program.

Baby lights like this would be allowed by the Disney Look Guidelines as they meet the guidelines for approved color due to meeting these guidelines.

1. Looks like it could be natural
2. Within two shades lighter then natural hair

So, if you happen to have hair like this prior to the start of your program you will be fine without needing to dye it one solid color.

For any ladies wondering about a Pixie cut style I got you covered here is Disney's response to a shorter cut for women, and what it should look like to meet Disney Look guidelines.

As for any ladies wondering about asymmetrical cuts Disney's advice was to email them with a photo (the email to send it to can also be found at the bottom of this post) as some are allowed and others are not.

I did not forget about the struggles of African-American hair trust me ladies I know Disney Look does not touch about the struggle of afros, naturally curly hair, twists, and etc. so I did some digging to find out what is indeed approved. According to the post above braids are also allowed as well as your natural hair in case anyone was wondering, and according to Disney's Q&A with Disney Look guidelines in 2016 twists and afros are also approved.

I know Disney Look guidelines especially when it comes to hair can be frustrating, so I hope this helps with any confusion as to what is and is not approved. Now I understand I left a lot of grey zone, but this should be a general guideline as I stated (and it will show up later) you can always email them.

For you males you must meet these guidelines:
  • Clean, presentable fingernails are a must. Fingernails should not extend beyond the tip of the finger.
Yup this is all you have under this category, and I presume (as I do not judge) any male wanting to wear make-up will probably be limited to foundation and bronzer.

For you females you must meet these guidelines:
  • If makeup is worn, it should be applied in a blended manner and in appropriate, neutral colors.
  • Fingernails should be clean.
  • If polish is used, it should be an appropriate, neutral color. This includes deeper, richer shades of polish. Polishes that are not permitted include: black, gold, silver, multicolored or neon. Charms or decals on fingernails are not permitted.
  • Fingernails should not exceed one-fourth of an inch (approximately 6 mm) beyond the fingertip.
I know that is some information there, so I am just gonna keep this simple with approved and not approved photos much like I did with hair color.

*Yes I did just seriously use Cara Delevingne first off who doesn't like her, second it was easier to use the same person, and third well I don't have one it's just an example.

For anyone wondering something along these lines does not meet Disney Look guidelines although I will say I am in love with this look. For Disney though this is a bit much, and is considered distracting so it does not meet the guidelines making this a unapproved look.

Now for anyone wondering about this particular look this is a more natural look, and happens to meet Disney Look guidelines. As it is not distracting, colors are neutral, appropriate, and this look is not distracting making this an approved look.

Now I will move on to the never-ending debate of nail polish, and now I will say this really 100% depends on skin tone. However, I will give an example of a few polishes that I have found would fall under the category of Disney Look approved (also yes I have personally worn all these polishes during my time at Disney as well). I will start with length and cut though as sometimes that tends to be a question of concern.

***Important!! If you work with food so any food & beverage and merchandise cast members who deal with food & beverage you cannot wear any nail polish (not even clear), and you are also not permitted to wear gel, acrylics, or silk nails.

Merchandise locations (that I know of) that would require you to meet these guidelines are listed here by Disney:

For anyone wondering this was taken directly from Disney's website on role specific Disney Look, and you can read it for yourself here. Alright moving on to nail polish and again I will stress this truly does depend on your skin tone, but I will leave a few shades that I have found are neutral (note these are not all of them just a few).

*Note I did not specify which color for what skin, because I am going to assume you can look up the colors yourself. If not I will post a general color chart after this to give you a general idea of what matches and what will not.

I said at this end of this I would post the general look guideline for the nail polish colors, and please use this to decide your choice of colors. Also for any ladies wondering if you are not working in food & beverage or merchandise with food & beverage you can also wear gels, acrylics, and silk nails. For the fake nails you will need to have them meet the Disney Look cut guidelines for nail style, and yes you can have the french tips if you prefer them.
The general Disney guideline for eyewear:

The frames and lenses of both prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses should be a conservative color and style free from contrasting logos. Eyeglasses and sunglasses should not detract from the costume or contradict the theme of the show.

Frames should be a conservative, neutral color and style, free from contrasting logos.
Only sunglasses that allow the eyes to be seen through the lenses are permitted. Mirrored or opaque lenses are not permitted.
Sunglasses are not to be worn at night, in dark areas, or indoors.
If glasses are not being worn, they must be put away. Wearing them on top of the head or hanging from a costume is not permitted. A discreet cord or chain is permitted in a solid, neutral color, free from ornamentation and decoration.

Yes, for those wondering the rule is for male and females there is no separate rules for this one.

Also as a note here for you Lifeguards you will want them for work, and if you have a polarized pair bring them the glare is 100% horrible especially at some resort pools.

For anyone else wondering about logos you can have them I know the wording is a little confusing but they cannot be in your face. A prime example is black glasses with a red brand name on the side there it would be obvious, but black glasses with a dark grey logo would be fine. I will say if your eyewear is not approved one of your leaders will let you know, and if you bring them during your training your trainer should let you know.

For anyone wondering these are the shades I rocked during my DCP and my MI program. Some leaders might give you a hard time for darker lenses (for me it was my annoying trainer), but they meet Disney Look guidelines as long as you can see your eyes through the lenses.

Here is the general rule for body alterations:

Intentional body alteration or modification for the purpose of achieving a visible, physical effect that disfigures, deforms or similarly detracts from a professional image is prohibited. Examples include, but are not limited to: visible tattoos, brands, body piercing (other than traditional ear piercing for women), tongue piercing or splitting, tooth filing, earlobe expansion and disfiguring skin implants. Tattoos must be discreetly and completely covered at all times. Jewelry, spacers, retainers, or plugs are not permitted in any body piercing, including non-visible piercings, while working.

This is the guideline for both males and females, and yes they are strict about this one. This also includes anyone with a tattoo, and yes they need to covered at all times while working (even if they are Disney related). They are strict about this, and the best way to cover it up would be make-up.

For anyone wondering what to use to cover-up a tattoo here are a few products:
  • Esteé Lauder Double Wear Maximum Maximum Coverage (my personal favorite)
  • Dermablend Leg & Body Cover
  • Hard Candy Glamoflauge
  • Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer
You can also wear long sleeves if you prefer, or long pants if it happens to be on your calves or something. However point is has to be covered, but to be clear if you can cover it with a shirt you are fine.
These are the general guidelines for males that you have to meet:
  • Rings, a small tie tack and a classic, business-style wristwatch are permitted.
  • Necklaces, bracelets and ankle bracelets are not permitted. A medical-alert necklace, bracelet or ankle bracelet is acceptable.
  • Jewelry may not be worn in any visible body piercing. See previous section on "Body Alteration or Modification".
  • Only one ring on each hand is permitted. A ring may be worn on any finger.
  • The only hats and sun visors that may be worn are those issued by Costuming as part of the costume. Check with Costuming for the proper positioning of the hat.
For you females here are the general guidelines you have to meet:
  • Accessories no larger than one inch (approximately 2.5 cm) wide (approximately 2.5 cm) wide and four inches (approximately 10 cm) long are acceptable. Headbands, hair ribbons, or hair ties are acceptable, provided that they are no wider than one inch (2.5 cm).
  • Accessories must be a neutral color (silver, gold, tortoiseshell, black, clear or pearl) or a solid color that matches the costume.
  • No more than three small accessories may be worn at once.
  • The only hats and sun visors that may be worn are those issued by Costuming as part of the costume. Check with Costuming for the proper positioning of the hat.
  • Rings, earrings and a classic business-style wristwatch are permitted.
  • Necklaces, bracelets and ankle bracelets are not permitted. A medical-alert necklace, bracelet or ankle bracelet is acceptable.
  • Earrings must be a simple, matched pair in gold, silver or a color that blends with the costume. One earring in each ear is permitted. Earrings may be clip-on or pierced, post, hoop or dangle and must be worn on the bottom of the earlobe. Earrings may not exceed the size of a quarter.
  • Only one ring on each hand is permitted, with the exception of a wedding set. A ring may be worn on any finger.
These are general guidelines that need to be meet by both male and females for costumes:
  • Costumes should be clean and neat at all times. If a costume change becomes necessary during your shift, you should report immediately to your Costuming location, after consulting with your Leader. Costumes must be worn as they are designed. Any questions pertaining to the fit of a costume should be addressed with Costuming to make sure the appearance meets the requirements for the Disney Look.
  • As a reminder, you are responsible for the proper care and handling of all costume pieces issued to you. Costumes issued to you remain the property of the company and must be returned in good condition upon request or at the time of separation or transfer.
  • When wearing a costume off property, remove your name tag and do not wear your costume for personal use. Your costume is not to be worn when visiting property as a guest.
These are general guidelines that need to be meet by both male and females for footwear:
  • The required shoes for a costumed area differ based on the role and the theming of the costume. Cast members should check with their leaders prior to purchasing their work shoes and socks to ensure proper style and color. It is recommended that slip-resistant rubber-soled shoes be worn in all areas as a safety precaution. Approved shoes and socks are required the first day in costume. Cast members are responsible for guaranteeing that shoes are kept clean and in good repair at all times.
  • For areas requiring a dress shoe or athletic shoe, shoes must be solid in color with no contrasting logos or markings and made of a polishable material such as leather. In certain limited areas, other styles of shoe may be required.
*As a note for Lifeguards you can white sneakers or Teva style shoes or Crocs. However, they need to have a strap on the back of the foot. Also trust me just go with the sandals jumping in and having wet sneakers for the rest of the day sucks like a lot almost as much as jumping in with a fleece (that thing never dries -also get the one without the Disney lifeguarding logo it is thicker)

For you males these are the general Disney Look guidelines you must meet:
  • Dress trousers and a short- or long-sleeved professional-style shirt are required. Shirts must be tucked in, with the exception of camp style dress shirts and sweaters specifically tailored otherwise.
  • A tie, sport coat or suit may be required at certain times, depending on your work location and the nature of your role. Check with your area leader for more information.
  • Cotton twill trousers (i.e., Dockers®, khakis) are permitted only if they are neatly pressed, creased and appear to be professionally laundered.
  • Non-costumed cast members are permitted to wear a short- or long-sleeved oxford style dress shirt with property-specific embroidered logo. Sport coats, blazers, and ties are optional.
  • In addition to the options above, non-costumed men in Sports and Recreation at Walt Disney World® Resort are permitted to wear dress or golf-style shorts no shorter than three inches (7.6 cm) above the top of the knee. Shorts may be paired with a professional-style shirt (as detailed above) or with a neat, well-maintained polo or golf-style shirt. Shorts are not permitted for men in Golf Operations or for office-based cast in this area.
  • Clothing not permitted includes polo or golf-style shirts (except for Sports and Recreation cast), cargo-style trousers, t-shirts and garments made of denim fabrics.
  • Winter jackets and coats should also present a professional appearance and should be made of fabrics traditionally acceptable in business. For example, wool, leather and micro fiber offer good choices. Denim, nylon, satin and other casual fabrics would not meet these professional guidelines.
  • Fabrics should be those traditionally acceptable for business, such as tweed, wool, cotton, polyester, silk, linen, rayon or blends of these fibers. Unacceptable fabrics include spandex, metallic fabrics, sheer fabrics, clinging knits, denim and chambray.
  • Patterns that are large graphics, large company and non-company logos, and styles that suggest extremely casual sportswear are not permitted.
  • Non-costumed cast members, while working outdoors only, may wear hats made of natural materials, such as straw, with a small brim for protection from the sun. These should be a simple, classic style, solid tan or brown in color. Hatbands must be a solid color similar to the color of the hat. Baseball caps and visors are not permitted.
  • Dress shoes and socks in good business taste are required. Western boots and deck shoes are not permitted.
  • Lapel pins, tie bars or clips, collar bars, cufflinks, rings, a bracelet and a business-style watch are permitted.

For females these are the general Disney Look guidelines you must meet:
  • Professional options for women include dress pants with a classic style blouse or sweater, skirted or pants suit, dress with or without a jacket, and business-style walking shorts with a blouse and jacket or vest.
  • A blazer or suit may be required at certain times, depending on your work location and the nature of your role. Check with your area leader for more information.
  • Sleeveless tops and dresses are permitted, provided the sleeve width is no fewer than three inches (approximately 7.6 cm). Tank tops, spaghetti straps, and other casual styles are not acceptable.
  • Traditional and professional style mid-calf Capri pants are permitted. Cotton twill, cargo, leggings or other casual styles of Capri pants do not present a professional image and are therefore not permitted.
  • Cotton twill full-length pants (i.e., Dockers®, khakis) are permitted only if they are neatly pressed, creased, and appear to be professionally laundered.
  • Non-costumed cast members are permitted to wear a short- or long-sleeved oxford style dress shirt with property-specific embroidered logo. A blazer is optional.
  • In addition to the options above, non-costumed women in Sports and Recreation at Walt Disney World® Resort are permitted to wear dress or golf-style shorts no shorter than three inches (7.6 cm) above the top of the knee. Shorts may be paired with a professional-style blouse (as detailed above) or with a neat, well-maintained polo or golf-style shirt. Shorts are not permitted for females in Golf Operations or for office-based cast in this area.
  • Clothing not permitted includes polo or golf-style shirts (except for Sports and Recreation cast), cargo-style pants, t-shirts, sundresses, leggings, casual shorts, wrap-around shorts, one-piece rompers and garments made of denim fabrics.
  • Winter jackets and coats should present a professional appearance and should be made of fabrics traditionally acceptable in business. For example, wool, leather and micro fiber offer good choices. Denim, nylon, satin and other casual fabrics would not meet these professional guidelines.
  • Dress and skirt lengths may range from three inches (7.6 cm) above the top of the kneecap bone to the bottom of the ankle. The length of shorts should be from the top of the kneecap bone to three inches (7.6 cm) above the top of the kneecap bone. Slits in skirts, kick pleats and buttoned or snapped closures should not exceed five inches (12.7 cm) above the middle of the knee. Pants should be long enough to touch the bottom of the ankle.
  • Fabrics should be those traditionally acceptable for business, such as tweed, wool, cotton, polyester, silk, linen, rayon or blends of these fibers. Unacceptable fabrics include spandex, gauze, metallic fabrics, sheer fabrics, clinging knits, denim and chambray. Patterns that are large graphics, large company and non-company logos, and styles that suggest extremely casual sportswear are not permitted
  • Non-costumed cast members, while working outdoors only, may wear hats made natural materials, such as straw, with a small brim for protection from the sun. These should be a simple classic style, solid tan or brown in color. Hatbands must be a color similar to the color of the hat. Baseball caps and visors are not permitted.
  • Dress shoes or boots in good business taste are required. Classic dress shoes are permitted to have an open toe, open heel and/or sling back. Athletic shoes, sandals, and Western boots are not permitted.
**Important for you DCP and operations PIs this is what you should use to decide what is appropriate for Traditions

This is the general rule for personal electronic devices that must be meet by both females and males:

Cellular phones and other digital assistants may not be used on stage during work hours. These items must be concealed from view and operated on silent mode if carried. Company-issued cellular phones will be allowed if they are required for a specific business need.

If anyone is wondering about FitBits or Fitness activity trackers here are the rules:
  • Approved activity fitness tracker wristbands colors are black, white, brown, grey, silver, or gold tone.
  • Bright shades such as green, blue, purple, red, and orange are not approved.
  • Visible pedometers are approved to be worn using the same color guidelines of black, white, grey, brown, silver, or gold tone.
  • Please wear activity fitness tracker wristband on the opposite arm from your watch. Please refer to the specific guidelines regarding watches and bracelets
  • Guidelines may vary based on line of business due to safety guidelines. Please see leader for additional details

I know what you are all thinking who actually wears a watch anymore? Well you will on the Disney College Program and operations Professional Internships. This is due to you are not allowed to actually check your phone on stage (even though you can have it) especially for safety critical roles, so you are going to want to know when to go to break (and when it's late), leave for the day, and etc. Now to be clear it does not have to be anything fancy, and as someone who has a nice watch I never wore it.

The general guideline for males is as follows:

Men’s watch bands can only be black or brown, with a plain watch face.

Here is an example of an approved men's watch

The general guideline for females is as follows:

Women’s watch bands can be gold, silver, or white, and also must have a plain watch face.

Here is an example of an approved women's watch

As a last note for watched I suggest something inexpensive as it rains a lot, and if you happen to wear one I suggest water resistant (even for people who are not lifeguards). For anyone who happens to be a lifeguard you are going to want a watch (trust me rotations are going to be a pain without one), and I also suggest water resistant for the obvious reasons.

For anything you are unsure if it meets Disney Look Guidelines email wdw.college.recruiting@disney.com with a picture (back, front, and side view), and they will respond generally within 24-48 hours with a response (except on weekends). Otherwise they will let you know when you check-in at Casting, and generally they want it fixed prior to your first day of training.

As a general note for anyone wondering if you work a non-guest facing role such as corporate they are a little more relaxed in terms of the Disney Look, and some departments typically creative ones such as Yellow Shoes do not have to comply at all with Disney Look. So, be aware Disney Look is an overall policy however there are exceptions outside of guest facing roles in theme parks and resorts.

Let's Go Ride the Transtar

The endless debates for DCP participants at Walt Disney World is probably boiled down to bring a car or not to bring a car. To be honest a car is nice, and makes getting around so much easier then the Transtar bus. However, it is not necessary to bring one at all especially too get to and from work. As a note I will say if you are a DCP applicant who plans on applying for a PI or MI right during your program you will have to bring one in order to meet the qualifications even if you live in their housing (which MIs cannot).

Let's cover the basics for those who have no intentions of reading the bus schedule posted below good news there is an app for that! Transloc Rider it is available for both iOS and Android there is also a website http://transtar.transloc.com/ that is pretty much the same as the app. I will say the app and website are pretty accurate, but I would always leave about 3-5 minutes early just in case.

Important Information

  • Every bus stops at Vista Way no exceptions
  • Chatham Square and The Commons have bus stops, but not every bus stops at either one
  • Patterson Court does not have a bus stop, but is within walking distance to Chatham Square
  • All complexes that have bus stops have them located near the clubhouse
  • The Commons and Vista Way's bus stop is inside the complex, but Chatham Square's is not

General Information for Transtar

Dispatch Offie | (407) 560-1175
Use this phone number for pick-up requests, lost and found, and general questions

Transportation Hotline | (407) 827-1247
This is for concerns and suggestions only and at the end of the message you must leave your name, apartment, and phone number. For complaints you can also use the app as well, and is sometimes easier then calling.

Email | wdw.college.program.transportation@disney.com

Lost & Found | Located at Vista Way bus stop

*Any stop with The Commons marked means it must be requested it is not a regular stop
**H bus does not operate on Christmas Day
***As a note you will notice the M bus is a bit different hence why I added the days they run, and which month they run on those days.

Tips and Tricks
  • Ensure you get to work on-time take a bus that leaves an hour early
  • Buses that have a schedule pick-up at Chatham Square first then go to Vista Way take longer, so I suggest you plan ahead if you ride the A, B, C, E, and G bus
  • Also if you are trying to get to Vista Way from the Chatham Square, The Commons, or Patterson Court those are the buses you want to take
  • If you live in Patterson Court allow yourself 10-15 minutes (depending on where your apartment is located) to get to Chatham Square
  • Have your Housing ID ready no one wants to be stuck waiting for the person to dig it out of their backpack
  • Be early! Some of these Transtar drivers are known to leave late CPs behind, or shut the door in their face
  • If your bus skips your stop (has totally happened), or is being delayed let your manager know most of the time it will not just be you who's late to work due to a Transtar issue
  • FYI do not lie as a former MI typically they do call and confirm
  • The buses run every 20-30 minutes and most have two buses, so if you miss one just catch the next one
  • For those wondering yes the paper times guide app for the buses is accurate even more so then the app
  • Also do not be that person let people get off the bus before you get on it
  • Two notes for this: One let people who got off work actually sit they have been working sometimes 12+ hour days while you played in the parks. Also second sometimes people like myself could not wear their costume outside of work / simply did not want to wear it home, so do not assume if they are not wearing one they were playing in the parks all day
  • These buses fill up quickly and sometimes especially E & C buses you are not going to catch the first one, so be patient another one will come soon enough
  • Make friends with people who brought cars! Yes I said it trust me it is useful. Especially as someone who brought a car I did not mind giving people rides to work (if we were going to the same location), and if you also brought one consider carpooling
  • Also no I know someone asked once you cannot ride a guest bus in your costume to get to work on-time. However, if you are not in costume you can take a guest bus to get to work on-time (thank you Greg you saved my day!)
  • Know your route!

I will also state for anyone wondering what are the benefits of having a car during your program are (yes I brought one). First off you don't have to leave an hour early for work I left about 30 minutes early (sometimes 20 if I had a super early morning shift), and still managed to get to work early. Also it is very nice to have as a back-up a prime example was a messed up the bus schedule, and was going to be late to work if I did not bring a car (all my roommates were already at work). In general shopping was also easier I did not have to worry about finding someone with a car, waiting for the bus, or have to walk out in the rain when I needed something. I could also take advantage of some things CPs without cars in general won't get to do such as go to Devil's Den, Mall of Millenia, St. Petersburg, Panama Beach, Daytona Beach, and etc. basically I got to travel around a lot on my days off. As a note yes some CPs will become your best friends because of it, and will ask for rides to work or back to the complexes. The only downside is much the same as the buses there is a lot of traffic around the area from time to time, and unlike the bus riders you cannot blame traffic for being late.

*There is also as of 2016 a decal fee for bringing a vehicle with you on your program
**As a note for you CPs driving in the afternoon that live in Chatham, Patterson, and The Commons avoid Vineland Ave as it is very backed up turning right towards Disney Springs instead take International Drive

Now to be clear there is no need to bring one as transportation is provided, but it is very nice to have it as a back-up. I will also state if you plan on applying for a PI/MI, or staying on after your program you are going to want one especially for you future PI/MI applicants as it is required to be qualified. For those who are worried about bringing one (like my former roommate) it is not the end of the world I brought one, and actually preferred to take the bus when possible to save money on gas.

Also in case you California interns thought I forgot about you I did not, and I will be the bearer of bad news. If you are an intern in California for the DCP or PI transportation is not provided, but for you DCP applicants you are given the option to use public transportation to Disneyland.

Look at This Trove Treasures Untold: Cast Connections & Company D

I suppose prior to doing a post about the DCP or PI experience you are all wondering what exactly are the perks of working here anyway. Well I guess it is about time I tell you since it is not like you cannot find this stuff on the internet anyway. Cast Connections For those of you who may have done the program before well it got an upgrade in 2015, and has been moved to a new location. In case anyone from Disneyland is wondering I have posted the address for the new Company D and Team Center location towards the bottom of the post.

Store Hours:
Sunday-Wednesday | 9:00 am – 6:30 pm
Thursday-Saturday | 9:00 am – 7:30 pm

Address: 2340 Recycle Way Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830
Telephone: (407) 824-6369

Who can get into Cast Connections and Property Control?
A current Cast
Member can bring up to 6 guests into Cast Connections and Property Control, but only Cast Member’s can go into the slightly damaged section in the back of the building (Why? I have no idea). They will need to bring a current Blue ID with them into the building to gain access into Property Control and the damaged section.

For those are not sure how to get there, or where the new location even is calm down I got you covered. It is going to be located near Disney’s Animal Kingdom. If you know where Buena Vista Drive is then you know how to get there lol. I will also attach a map that I will state right now that is not 100% accurate, but it will give the general idea on where to locate it. For you CPs that do not have a car simply take the K bus it drops you off there between 10:00 am – 5:00 pm daily.

As for what is Cast Connections well pretty simple it is slightly damaged items, out-of-season including holiday items, discontinued merchandise, and sometimes groceries (think Fort Wilderness not Publix’s). They have plenty of items from Vera Bradley, Dooney and Burke, the Disney pillow characters, t-shirts, autograph books, pens, shades, cosmetics, and etc. Everything is already marked down from 50% - 75% off, and you get an extra 10% Cast Member discount when you check out.

As for what is in Property Control (aka now Mickey’s Treasure’s) it is basically only for you Disney fanatic –no seriously. Alright for those actually wondering they are retired company items such as industrial equipment, furniture (found a Yacht and Beach lamp once), TVs, broken merchandise, unclaimed lost and found items, and etc. (truly once found a statue from Art of Animation). Everything much like Cast Connections is going to be 75% - 90% off the original price, and there are no additional discounts given to Cast Members.

Now onto (at least in my opinion) the more important of the Cast Member locations, and there are 6 locations at Walt Disney World. They sell exclusive Cast Member only merchandise such as pins, apparel, office supplies, lanyards, and etc. Most importantly though this is also where Cast Members can purchase discounted theme park tickets, discounted annual passes, and of course holiday tickets (Mickey’s Not-So-Scary, and Very Merry Christmas).

Who can get inside Company D?
This is 100% Cast Member exclusive unlike Cast Connections as these are typically located backstage, so non-Cast Members are typically not allowed. However, for non-backstage area ones like Team Disney you may bring a guest with you, but they are not allowed to purchase anything. Also as a note unlike Cast Connections there are six sites for Company D located on and off Walt Disney World Property.

Telephone (same for all locations): (407) 824-4254

Team Disney (across the street from Disney Springs West Side): This in my opinion is one of the best options on property, and usually the one that is pretty empty.

These ticket prices are updated to match the hub as of April 2016

As I stated earlier Company D is where you will find discounted theme park tickets, so below I will leave the prices for the tickets with the discount as a general note though this does include tax for anyone wondering. These are also the prices as of 2016, and are subject to changes.
At Company D you can also find discounted annual passes for both Walt Disney World and on the hub you can purchase Disneyland annual passes (and tickets).

Also, for anyone wondering as stated earlier they also sell discounted tickets to Mickey's Not-So-Scary and Mickey's Very Merry Christmas party. These are hard ticket events and are not included with regular admission, so CMs cannot get in for free. These hard tickets can be purchased at Company D for 30% off of regular price, but to be clear they are for certain dates only. Not-So-Scary is going to have CM discounted days for all of September, and certain days in October -as a note they often add more days if they do not sell out so keep checking. Very Merry Christmas is pretty similar they have discounted days November, and certain days in December which they will add more if certain ones do not sell out (note Very Merry's last day in 2016 is Dec. 22nd).

I also wanted to update this post due to Company D at Disneyland is officially back open as well. For anyone wondering it is pretty much the same information as Walt Disney World in terms of what they have, and what they sell there. However, unlike Walt Disney World there is only one location at Disneyland so I will leave the new address below for anyone trying to find it.

Address | 1625 S. Lewis Street Anaheim, CA 92805

*Also for anyone who happens to be working at third party operating participants such as Swan & Dolphin, Four Seasons, majority of the Disney Springs Stores, and etc. Your benefits will depend on the contract Disney has with your operating participant company, so you are not guaranteed the same benefits as a Disney Cast Member would have. Thought I would put that in there since someone was under the impression that they had all the same benefits as they work on property, so I suggest you ask if you want to know.

Now Give Me the Secret of the F.A.Q Part II

I have done the F.A.Q. section for the pre-offer stage, but I feel like I should do one for the post-offer, internship stage, and post-internship. Here are some common questions I have been seeing over the past few rounds, and I will state right now some of these will not make sense if you have not a previous intern / current intern. So, without further ado here is the cheat sheet part II.

I wanted the DCP for Fall not Fall Advantage (or any combination similar) can I change it?

Nope, your offer is take it or leave it so if you did not get the one you wanted then too bad. You also cannot 'trade' with anyone who wanted the opposite despite popular belief. This is why Disney tells you only check the box for the program you want to be considered for, and when they ask on during the phone interview if you would consider it then I suggest you say "no" if you say "yes" they will. Also for you character performers same thing if they ask you at audition if you would consider it then say "no" especially if you do not want to be considered.

When will I get my location, since it was not in my offer?
For those of you like GR and MIs for example who do not have your exact location in the offer it will come. Generally the location is in a separate email along with Casting/Check-In time, and usually comes a few weeks after your offer. As for you DCP interns you will not find out your work location until you arrive at Vista Way/Carnegie Plaza on your check-in day.

I need a Service Animal/ESA can I bring one?
If you need a Service Animal or ESA you will need to fill out the proper documentation to bring one, and you will be able to fill out the form on the Disney Pre-Arrival Checklist site under review medical accommodations. The form is about 11 pages on the website, and please remember to fill it out prior to arrival. As for you accommodations during the DCP program if they have the room available you will be placed in a one bedroom alone, and if the do not they will typically suggest you live off of housing as they cannot accommodate you.

I need certain days of for religious reasons?
You may fill out a form found on the Disney Pre-Arrival Checklist site, but I will say it is up to Disney's discretion to approve it or not. However, the form is one page they are going to want your phone number, address, name, and date you are requesting it. They are also going to ask for what is your specific request, and why you are asking for this specific religious request.

Do I get to choose my check-in time?
For you PIs no you do not your check-in time is given to you, but for you DCP’s yes you can choose. However, you have to choose dates that are available for your role which you will see after you turn in your offer.

What if I am going to be late to check-in?
For you DCP’s this is generally not a huge issue, but just let someone know in advance so your Casting schedule is not all mixed up. For you PIs also not a huge issue, but keep in mind some internships have things to do on the first day –especially you Animal Program Interns.

What is the first day like?
Without getting into too much detail about what to expect here is the breakdown: arrive at check-in location (FL PI & DCP: Vista Way or CA DCP: Carnegie Plaza/ CA PI: Casting), fill out a bunch of paperwork, for you DCP get your work locations, get drug tested if needed, head off to Casting get fill out more paperwork, get fingerprinted at Casting, and then move-in to your apartment. This is a very general overview for those wanting more detail you can find it in my post about the check-in day.

How long is Traditions?
For you PIs it is fairly short usually about 1-2 hours (leaning towards the 1 hour), and as for you DCP you are not so lucky. Some of you DCP’s will have short days like the PIs, but others will have other training they need to do on the first day as well so it can be 2-4 hours.

When does the first paycheck drop?
When you sign-up (unless you live outside of housing) you have to pay a fee for the first few weeks of rent, and generally around week 2-3 your paycheck drops. So, keep that in mind when you arrive do not come without any money expecting to get paid right away.

Can I change my work location?
Nope, if you do not like your trainer/cord/manager sorry that is whom you are working with for the remainder of your internship. It is possible to change due to medical reasons, but they better be a good one. Yes, that includes you food and beverage having an allergy to nuts won’t guarantee you moving. They will actually just keep you on popcorn stands or something along those lines away from your allergy.

I heard if you need ‘light duty’ as an intern you will get termed, is it true?
Okay there is no blanket statement, but for the most part I will say no it is not. If it only stops you from certain aspects of your job they will keep you at your work location, and have you avoid doing those things. If you need to leave due to the nature of your job if they can find a light duty position for you until you are able to return to your own work location –they will. However, if there is nothing available and you cannot preform your jobs function sometimes you are just out of luck since at that point it is possible to be sent home (aka termed)

Is it easy to get termed?
Yes and no really depends for you PIs it is a little more difficult to get termed especially if you live outside of housing, but for you DCP again your kind of out of luck. I will say from my personal experience most of the people I know who got termed were termed due to housing reasons not work related reasons. It is possible to be termed for liquor in an under 21 apartment (aka wellness), underage drinking on housing (that includes you 21+ if you bought the liquor), sneaking people into the complex, having banned items (in the housing book you will get when you check-in), or breaking any other housing rules. At work it pretty much comes down to points and reprimands on how to get termed, and for your safety critical roles you can get reprimands for safety violations as well (lifeguard watch out for those audits and VATS). I will say though another easy way to get termed is to call out of work, and go to the theme parks –this is a 100% no. To give an example in case I lost some of you with that answer say you work at Target, and you call in from work you would not then go shopping at that Target would you? Most of you said no –smart answer. The same thing with Disney you do not call into work then go to work without actually working, and I will say it is all of Disney property not just where you work. So, do not call out from work at MK and go to DAK, Hollywood Studios, Disney Springs, Grand Floridian, or etc. stay 100% off of Disney property.

Does lifeguarding really get audited a lot?

Yes and no again depends on what exactly you are talking about here. Yes, the role does get audited a lot for safety reasons obviously, but not all the audits are Ellis audits. Some of the audits are from outside Ellis there are basically three levels of audits (I won't get to much into this as you will find out when you get there), but Ellis is only one type. As for when to expect the Ellis audit generally happens twice. Now as for the no part sometimes it is just getting a VAT out of the water in time nothing complex.

What is the rule on Disney look nail polish, lipstick, and etc.?
I will start off by saying you F&B cannot wear any nail polish at all not even clear, and no you cannot wear acrylic or gel nails either. As for everyone else neutral and natural is key, but I will also post a few links to help you out.
General Disney Look
Hair Color
Business Attire
Traditions Attire Advice
Disney Look Former CP

I will say if you happen to be in a creative department like Yellow Shoes they are a little more relaxed on the Disney look, and this is also true for some non-guest facing corporate roles as well. In general though in Florida the Disney Look is pretty much followed almost everywhere, but in California you have departments that are a little more relaxed about this.

What if I need a day off? Does this include holidays?
For you DCP you are going too have to put the request through on The Hub, and kind of just hope you get it off. For you PIs in theme park roles you are going too to do the same thing to get time off, but for the rest of you (you will know if this is you) all you have to do is talk to your department leaders majority of the time they are more then willing to give you the time off. As for holidays you DCP applicants, PI theme park roles, and MIs you are pretty much SOL, since this is hospitality where if you didn’t know is a 24 hour/365 days a year kind of thing. Which if you did not know when you agreed to do so means working holidays including Christmas, Hanukkah, New Years Eve, New Years Day, Thanksgiving, Birthday’s, and every other holiday in-between. So, no asking for Christmas off I will tell you right now you have a 0.1% chance of getting it off. For an example I had a manager who had been there for 10+ years, and for the first time he was getting Christmas off –yeah take that in for a moment. However, if you happen to be supper lucky aka the 0.1% you might be scheduled with it off, but if you are it is pretty likely you are going to get a call to come in (which you do not have too). As for you PIs who work at corporate here is the good news as long as Team Disney or Casting is not open then you do not have to be there.

Do we get a discount?
Yes, as a Disney CM you get a discount as well as theme park admission. I will only say the discount changes from the holiday to non-holiday season.

I have a costumed role, are the rumors true about Disney sizing?
All I can say is Disney sizing is about the weirdest thing I have ever encountered, and not quite sure how two shirts both size small are not the same size. I will say for anyone that needs a costume for their role please give yourself time to actually spend time at costuming to find the right size. Even though you wear a size 4 jean in ‘regular’ clothing does not mean you will be anywhere near a size 4 in Disney costuming. I also suggest if you do find one that actually fits you well hold onto to it you will probably not find it again, so just wash it to save yourself the hassle.

What happens if I term myself? Can I come back?
Well this really depends on why in general if you term yourself you are put on a 6 month no rehire status (this can be longer depending on the circumstance), and will be unable to apply again until the time is up. If you term and forget to turn in a costume you will be kept on the no rehire list until the fees have been paid for it just as an FYI. Also it should be noted if you left for a reason such as a family member dying then there is no punishment for leaving if you explain it to the Disney Service Center. I will also note in California if you term yourself you still owe rent for the rest of the lease you signed on Carnegie Plaza. Now, if you want to return to the company if you waited the 6 months, and maintained a job since leaving you should not have a problem. If you happen to be one of those interns who is on a longer no rehire list you will have to petition the no rehire status, which fair warning could take up to a 1-2 months. If for some reason you lose the petition there is not really much you can do from that point. Best advice for this situation is do not term yourself especially if you want to come back to the company, since you just made that process a whole lot more difficult.

Can I move out of housing during my internship?
The general answer is going to be no, but I will say it is possible to do so if you are- over 21, have a car, and already have a lease ready (does not have to be signed yet). This does not include summer interns for the DCP, but for everyone else those are the qualifications, and as for the lease part they need to know that if they release you from housing that apartment is 100% yours. I typically do not suggest doing this as the process can be quite a pain sometimes, but it is not impossible.

Can I change housing situations if I don’t like my roommates?
I will say the general answer is again no these apartments fill up fast, and moving you is going to be quite a pain. If the problem is your roommates they will have you do basically roommate counseling to work out your issues. In general whatever your issues are work them out, since you will all be living together for length of your internship. This is why I always suggest choosing your roommates, and doing so very carefully.

If I turn 21 during my program can I change into a non-wellness apartment?
This is a common question DCP applicants have during their program I will say first off best advice is find roommates who are already all 21+, and are willing to live with you until you turn 21. Since it is a lot easier for housing to change the status of your apartment then it is for them to move you out of yours. Now if you live in wellness and turn 21 during your program if housing is available you can request to move, but keep in mind if nothing is available you are stuck in wellness.

Will I get hired for a full-time role in my PI department?
Now I want to be clear Disney does not give out statistics on number of interns they retain after the internship. I want to be clear though from my personal knowledge and experience very few interns were kept on as full-time or even part-time for that matter after their program was completed. Most of those who were able to stay on had roles within the theme parks such as guest relations. So, for you post-grads I would not bank on having a career with Disney after your program. MBA applicants though you happen to be in luck most of the MBA applicants I know were offered positions somewhere within the company as well as JD interns.

Are there networking opportunities?
There are, but for each coast it is going to be slightly different for you DCP’s. As for you PIs there are networking opportunities built into your schedule during work hours as well as events strictly for PI after work hours (MIs as well). There are also events like the DCP formal, and other DCP events you can attend as well if you pay the extra fee to attend (This does not include MIs).

DCP in California: You will have opportunities much like the PIs to meet with managers, executives, and certain departments during your program.

DCP in Florida: You will not however have any opportunity like California or PIs. Instead you will have location meet and greets with some managers, some seminars of executives you can attend, but that is pretty much it for meet and greets. So, you are going to kind of have to do this on your own. Best advice is first and foremost take advantage of the meet and greets they do give you. Also if you are going to attempt to use Rostr aim low don’t email Robert Iger, the President of Walt Disney World, or head of entertainment operations for the theme park and resorts expecting a reply –I’ll save you the time you will not get one. You can also set up meet and greets while you’re there, but most importantly do not forget network with the actual interns around you.

What is my work schedule going to be like?
For you DCP, some theme park PIs, and MIs as I stated earlier you will be working holidays, weekends, nights, and pretty much whenever they want you to. However, for most of you the schedule is going to be full-time work hours so around 40 hours per week. There are also no guarantees of having weekends off most of you will have odd days like Sunday and Monday, or Monday and Tuesday as an example. For those who know what ‘bidding’ is no interns do not get to bid for days off they pretty much get the leftover days. Now good news you can switch for the time off instead of requesting it to keep your hours, and generally pretty easy to do. For you corporate PIs you work full-time hours as well, but generally no weekends –so enjoy.

Can I get extra hours?
Yes there are a few ways to get extra hours (you PIs/MIs it is a bit harder) for everyone there are the extra hours hotline that drop at some ungodly hour at night, and are for things like Fantasmic!, strollers, and etc. (basically anything that does not require training). However, fair warning they go quickly so if you are not one of the first there chances are you are not getting any. For you DCP you can also ask to extend most of the time someone is going to call out, and they are going to need someone to stay so just offer to work.

Can I be cross-trained?
You can be in the DCP, but it is up to your management to decide. So, for some of you this can be pretty easy, but for others you are out of luck. For you MIs it is possible as well, but unlikely to actually happen unless you extend. For you PIs no not really since you took that specific role that is the one you will be doing, but you can extend into another internship if you would like.

What happens if I lose my Blue ID? Or keep it after my program?
Ah’ the blue ID if you lose it you will have to go to the lovely office in Celebration to get a new one, and there will be a fee for losing it. If you keep it after your program the only thing you will need to do is surrender it once you return to the company.

What is Cast Connections and Company D?
These two are cast member only stores on property where you will need a blue ID to get into. Cast Connections is a store with merchandise from the parks that has been marked down due to due damages, out of date, or simply overstock. There is also Property Control attached to Cast Connections that sometimes has furniture from the resorts, electronics, and sometimes other odd resort things (I once found an old statue from Art of Animation). As for Company D it is going to be a exclusive cast member only merchandise (you will be able to tell since most says cast exclusive) they generally have shirts, pens, office things, picture frames, pins, and most importantly theme park/water park tickets.

If I work at Disneyland can I go to Disney World (or vice versa)?
Yes, and vice versa you can indeed go into the other theme park for free.

Can I audition for shows on ABC?
No, you cannot audition for shows that are on ABC so in 2013 that meant no American Idol Auditions. You can however audition for shows on other networks, or ones that are not filmed by Disney or ABC.

Can I extend my program?
Yes, you can extend your programs as long as you do not exceed one consecutive year as an intern at The Walt Disney Company. For you interns you can apply for another role other then the one you currently in, but doing so does not guarantee you will get an offer. Some extensions especially in the DCP are sometimes denied, so do not bank on an extension every time.

When can I apply for full-time/part-time/seasonal?
The general rule is 6 weeks prior to the end of your program, and this is 100% true for you DCP applicants no exceptions. For you MI and PI applicants there are exceptions, which is you can apply for positions as long as your management approves you doing so. Otherwise you will also have to wait until 6 weeks prior to the end of your program to apply.

Am I going to get a job offer once my internship is over?
You will have to apply to be considered for any offer with Disney. I will say though most of the applicants I knew did not receive a job offer from their department, and the few who did were MBA applicants. MI applicants you are more likely to receive a job offer if there is space available, but no guarantee with that either. Now for you DCP it is much easier for you to get a job post-DCP as you will most likely just transfer into an hourly role similar to the one (or the same one) you did during the internship.

If I am a a current CP can I still apply for internships?
Yes, the PI is considered a 'promotion' so if offered you can switch even if your CP program is not over. However, for you advantage candidates fair warning watch the timing since remember you cannot be an intern more then one consecutive year.

Can I complete another internship program? Even as a graduate student?
If you have already done a program with Disney before you can do another one as long as it will not lead you to being an intern for more then one consecutive year. So, if you do one in 2013 then decide to come back in 2015 you are more then welcome to do so. I will also say while undergraduates typically complete the DCP and PI/MIs graduate students are able to apply to all of them as well –yes including the DCP. There are also exclusive grad student applications as well just in case anyone was wondering.

Can I apply for the Alumni only Summer DCP program?
The alumni-only summer program does not happen every year, but in the year it does come technically yes. I say technically since you still have to meet the same requirements as the DCP applicants, but on top of that be former alumni as well. I will say this program is quite small, and in the past it fills up quickly especially since apps are only open for 24 hours.

What is the Disney Alumni Association? Where do I sign-up?
The Disney Alumni Association is basically a group for former DCP alumni to network, and in order to join you have had to successfully complete a Disney internship. Below I will leave the links to the Alumni Association you might find helpful.

(Sign-up page)

https://www.facebook.com/groups/disneyalumniassociation/
https://www.linkedin.com/groups/125758/profile
https://www.linkedin.com/grps/Disney-Alumni-Association-44119/about?
Also joining the DCP alumni association is how you get an email about when the summer alumni DCP app drops. Along with information about homecoming, and you also get some free things like a t-shirt with the alumni association logo.

Again these are by no means all the questions everyone has, but these are the ones I noticed being asked a lot. If anyone has anymore feel free to leave a comment, and I will try to answer it for you. I will also say any general questions can be found on the Disney Career Site under their F.A.Q. for the program you are looking for, or on their Twitter live-chats.

I will also leave a few links here for other helpful blogs in specific areas you may be looking to find, and I will group them in sections.

For the Disney College Program these were just a few I found trust me there are plenty more, and as for you PI/MIs I will keep searching for more. Also if you happen to have a blog or vlog (especially PIs) that you are willing to share please leave a comment.
